Description
Italiano: Giacomo Leopardi morì a Napoli di idropisia nel 1837 mentre in città c' era un'epidemia di colera.

La lapide sepolcrale del poeta, del 1844 e fino al 1939 nell'atrio della chiesa di San Vitale a Fuorigrotta, riporta un’epigrafe commissionata dall' amico Ranieri con testo di Pietro Giordano e una serie di simboli: la civetta, la lucerna, il serpente che si morde la coda e la farfalla che vola su un ramo di lauro, pianta simbolo dei sommi poeti, ed un ramo di quercia, pianta consacrata a Giove. La tomba del poeta è a pochi passi, all'interno dello stesso Parco Virgiliano a Piedigrotta. - Il testo dell' epigrafe: "Al conte Giacomo Leopardi recanatese filologo ammirato fuori d'Italia scrittore di filosofia e di poesie altissimo da paragonare solamente coi greci che finì di XXXIX anni la vita per continue malattie miserissima fece Antonio Ranieri per sette anni fino all'estrema ora congiunto

all'amico adorato MDCCCXXXVII"
