This template may be used to cite the 1913 ''[[Catholic Encyclopedia]]''. The text is available either at [http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/index.html NewAdvent.org] or at [[wikisource:Catholic Encyclopedia (1913)]], and this template allows either source to be referenced.

===Usage===
Full template with available options is shown below. If {{para|wstitle}} is set, {{para|title}} and {{para|url}} are ignored. If {{para|wstitle}} or {{para|url}} are set, {{para|id}} is ignored.

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
{{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia
| wstitle =
| id =
| url =
| title =
| author =
| first =
| last =
| author-link =
| access-date =
| page =
| pages =
| quote =
| ref =
| short =
| noicon =
}}
</syntaxhighlight>

===Examples===
Example using {{para|wstitle}} (wikisource):

*{{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia
| wstitle = Ecclesiastical Heraldry
| author = A. C. Fox-Davies
| first =
| last =
| author-link = Arthur Charles Fox-Davies
}}

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
{{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia
| wstitle = Ecclesiastical Heraldry <- for page at wikisource
| author = A. C. Fox-Davies <- optional
| first = <- alternate form for author
| last =
| author-link = Arthur Charles Fox-Davies <- optional, presumes author
}}
</syntaxhighlight>

Example using {{para|id}} (newadvent.org):

*{{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia
| id = 07243a
| title = Ecclesiastical heraldry
| author = A. C. Fox-Davies
| first =
| last =
| author-link = Arthur Charles Fox-Davies
| access-date = 2006-09-01
}}

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
{{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia
| id = 07243a <- for page at newadvent.org
| title = Ecclesiastical heraldry <- for the Catholic Encyclopedia article name
| author = A. C. Fox-Davies <- optional
| first = <- alternate form for author
| last =
| author-link = Arthur Charles Fox-Davies <- optional, presumes author
| access-date = 2006-09-01
}}
</syntaxhighlight>

Example using {{para|url}} (could point to any source of the page):

*{{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia
| url = http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Catholic_Encyclopedia_%281913%29/Ecclesiastical_Heraldry
| title = Ecclesiastical heraldry
| author = A. C. Fox-Davies
| first =
| last =
| author-link = Arthur Charles Fox-Davies
| access-date = 2006-09-01
}}

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
{{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia
| url = http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Catholic_Encyclopedia_%281913%29/Ecclesiastical_Heraldry
| title = Ecclesiastical heraldry <- for the Catholic Encyclopedia article name
| author = A. C. Fox-Davies <- optional
| first = <- alternate form for author
| last =
| author-link = Arthur Charles Fox-Davies <- optional, presumes author
| access-date = 2006-09-01
}}
</syntaxhighlight>

There is also a short form which might be appear in a "Notes" section. This should only be used if the full form is given in a different section. To work parameter <code>short=</code> can be set to one of more alphanumeric characters. For example:
<code>short=yes</code>, <code>short=x</code> or <code>short=1</code>. An Example using {{para|wstitle}}:

* {{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia | wstitle = Ecclesiastical Heraldry | short = yes }}

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
{{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia | wstitle = Ecclesiastical Heraldry | short = yes }}
</syntaxhighlight>

The {{para|noicon}} option is useful when the citation appears in a Wikisource-inline list and {{para|wstitle}} is being used (and like the parameter short it set with one of more alphanumeric characters). For example:

* {{Wikisource-inline|list=
** {{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia|wstitle=Abel (1)|noicon=x}}
** {{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia|wstitle=Cain|noicon=1|short=1}}
}}

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
* {{Wikisource-inline|list=
** {{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia|wstitle=Abel (1)|noicon=x}}
** {{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia|wstitle=Cain|noicon=1|short=1}}
}}
</syntaxhighlight>
