This is a documentation subpage for Template:R from remote talk page.
It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

__EXPECTED_UNCONNECTED_PAGE__

This template is used on approximately 31,000 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them.

This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects.

Any breaking changes to this template, including moving it or nominating it for deletion, must be communicated in advance to Twinkle's users and maintainers at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle. The standard installation of Twinkle relies on this template.

Usage

This redirect category (rcat) template populates Category:Redirects from remote talk pages by default.
Add this rcat to a talk page in the following manner:

REDIRECT (target discussion page)

This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:

From a remote talk page: This is a redirect from a talk page in any talk namespace to a corresponding centralized talk page that is more heavily watched, and thus more likely to be answered or acted on. Please start discussions there.

When appropriate, protection levels are automatically sensed, described and categorized.

__EXPECTSHORTPAGE__

</syntaxhighlight>

Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:

REDIRECT (target discussion page)

From a remote talk page: This is a redirect from a talk page in any talk namespace to a corresponding centralized talk page that is more heavily watched, and thus more likely to be answered or acted on. Please start discussions there.

</syntaxhighlight>

This accords with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.

Use this rcat to tag any talk page where discussion would otherwise occur except because of its remote location; having few (if any) editors watching the page it is redirected to a page more heavily watched so as to increase the likelihood of the discussion being seen and acted upon.
