Template:R with Wikidata item

When used inside the {{Redirect category shell}} template:

When used by itself:

• From a cross-project redirect: This is a redirect from a title associated with an item on Wikidata. The Wikidata item associated with this page is [[d:Special:EntityPage/| ()]].
  • Use this template only on hard redirects – for soft redirects use {{Soft redirect with Wikidata item}}.

Template documentationviewedithistorypurge

This rcat template should be used only on hard redirects. To tag soft redirects, use {{Soft redirect with Wikidata item}}.

Usage

Use this rcat template in any namespace.

• This a special redirect (rcat) template. It is "special" because it tags hard redirects that are connected to items on Wikidata. Use the {{Soft redirect with Wikidata item}} rcat template to tag soft redirects that connect to Wikidata items. Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

1. REDIRECT (target article title)

__EXPECTSHORTPAGE__

</syntaxhighlight>

Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

1. REDIRECT (target article title)#(target list entry section/anchor)

</syntaxhighlight>

This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.

• Use this rcat on all hard redirects in any namespace from titles that are used as connections to other Wikimedia projects. See the category for examples.

Parameter

This rcat takes one unnamed parameter, <syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext" inline style="display: none;" />|1=(Wikidata item #), that may be used when a Wikidata "Q" number does not readily fill in, and you know that it exists on Wikidata. Examples follow: <syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

1. REDIRECT (target article title)

__EXPECTSHORTPAGE__

</syntaxhighlight>

where the item number on Wikidata is Q21491525 – the "Q" prefix is optional:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

1. REDIRECT (target article title)

__EXPECTSHORTPAGE__

</syntaxhighlight>

Error detection

This template automatically places redirects that are not linked to Wikidata items in the tracking category Category:Unlinked Wikidata redirects. Please fix these, either by removing {{R with Wikidata item}} or by linking them to Wikidata (using the (Q70894304) badge to avoid running into an error).

Printworthiness

• In main-article namespace, many redirects with Wikidata items are considered printworthy; however, there are also many that are unprintworthy, so there is no default sort for printworthiness.
• In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Some rcats automatically populate either Category:Printworthy redirects or Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. Others, like this rcat, do not, and that means it is up to editors to choose which of those categories, Printworthy or Unprintworthy, is appropriate and should be populated. The rcats that are used separately to populate those categories are:

• {{R printworthy}} and
• {{R unprintworthy}}

Please click on each one for more details and guidance.

• Template {{Redirect category shell}} will accept these and any other rcats:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">{{Redirect category shell| {{R with Wikidata item}} {{R printworthy}} }}

{{Redirect category shell| {{R with Wikidata item}} {{R unprintworthy}} }}</syntaxhighlight>
