This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
When used by itself:
- From currently unnecessary disambiguation: This is a redirect from a page name that has a currently unneeded disambiguation qualifier. Examples are:
- Jupiter (planet)
Jupiter (unnecessary parenthetical qualifier) - Paris, FranceParis (unnecessary comma-separated qualifier)
- Japanese Bobtail catJapanese Bobtail (unnecessary natural qualifier)
- Jupiter (planet)
- Category:Redirects to disambiguation pages is a subcategory of this rcat's category. So this rcat should not be used on mainspace disambiguation redirects with "(disambiguation)" in the page title. Use {{R to disambiguation page}} instead.

Usage
- This redirect category (rcat) template populates Category:Redirects from unnecessary disambiguation and, when the redirect is in main-article namespace (mainspace), then Category:Unprintworthy redirects is also populated by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Mainspace redirects that disambiguate needlessly are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.
 | Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Category:Redirects to disambiguation pages, the redirect category that is populated by {{R to disambiguation page}}, is a subcategory of this rcat's category. So this rcat should not be used on mainspace disambiguation redirects with "(disambiguation)" in the page title. Use {{R to disambiguation page}} instead.
- Add this rcat to a redirect page in the following manner:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- REDIRECT (target page name)
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
</syntaxhighlight>
- and when the redirect is in article mainspace, printworthiness should also be tagged:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- REDIRECT (target page name)
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
</syntaxhighlight>
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- REDIRECT (target page name)

- Jupiter (planet)
- Category:Redirects to disambiguation pages is a subcategory of this rcat's category. So this rcat should not be used on mainspace disambiguation redirects with "(disambiguation)" in the page title. Use {{R to disambiguation page}} instead.
</syntaxhighlight>
- This is in accord with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat to tag any redirect in any namespace from currently unnecessary disambiguation. An example is Jupiter (planet), which has an unnecessary qualifier in parentheses, "()". In this case planet Jupiter is the primary topic and the most likely target for a search of "Jupiter". Usually, the page with the qualifier in parentheses has been moved (renamed) to a title without the qualifier. After that, the page with the qualifier becomes a redirect and should be tagged by this rcat. Besides the straightforward Jupiter redirect, examples are:
- Japanese Bobtail catJapanese Bobtail – In this instance, "cat" is an unnecessary natural disambiguator.
- Paris, FranceParis – ", France" is an unnecessary comma-separated disambiguator.
- The Fool (1990 British film)The Fool (1990 film) – "British" in this case is an unnecessary qualifier.
- Japanese Bobtail cat
